Engagement Session Highlight Reel

October 29, 2019

Remember when I said I was going to do a better job blogging in 2019? Yea, me, too. We have about two months left of the decade (holy!), so there’s still time…

I needed a break from the 10,000 or so photos in my editing queue after the busy fall season (I wish I was kidding), so I’m hopping over here to share some of my favorite engagement sessions over the past few months.

For those in the wedding planning season of life, I strongly encourage you to invest in an engagement session with your wedding photographer. It’s a valuable chunk of time where you and your photographer can get to know each other, figure out how it feels to be in front of the lens, and just have some fun. I’m grateful that nearly all (I’m sure there’s someone out there who doesn’t feel this way, so I’ll throw in the “nearly”) my couples had fun during their engagement shoot. It’s pressure-free, and I work hard to make you feel comfortable, which results in images that you love and that capture the engagement season of life.

It’s more than just clicking a button on a nice camera. From lighting (crucial!) to composition to posing to emotion, there’s so much that goes into creating these images. Almost everyone shows up to their session saying, “we don’t feel comfortable in front of the camera.” Who does?! I mean, what normal person does? I know Gigi Hadid is probably a different story… I’m the most awkward person in front of the lens, so know that there will never be judgment from behind the camera. Aside from creating a judgement-free session, I hope to capture images that leave you feeling like yourself and capturing the love you share with your partner.

Take a peek at some of the images I’ve created with my 2020 couples over the past few months (Britt + Ethan don’t count as one of my couples…I just really like those Beacon Hill photos we took!)

BEHIND THE LENS

MEET ELLEN

I grew up in Vermont and now call Boston home, but I'll always feel most like myself outdoors.

Whether I'm hiking, skiing, spending a long weekend along the shores of Lake Champlain, or returning to Maine with my family each summer, those are the places where I recharge. Before becoming a full-time photographer, I spent years teaching middle school. Looking back, I think that's where I learned the skill that matters most in this work: helping people feel comfortable enough to simply be themselves.

When I'm not photographing weddings, you'll find me planning my next trip to France, getting lost in a good book, cheering on the Boston Bruins, spending time with my family, or wishing I were finally in the right season of life to bring home a dog.
