Fall Engagement Session | Boston, MA

December 10, 2020

I’ve honestly been so bad at blogging recently. Not only because I have approximately 1,000 other tasks that rank higher on my to-do list but also because I honestly never know what to write! It’s not because I don’t have anything to say. I think it’s more about me wanting the photos to speak for themselves. Tell their own story. But, I also recognize that some background info also helps.

Rachel + Ian reached out at the start of the pandemic with plans to get married at the Hampshire House in Boston in December of 2020. I chatted with them over Zoom from my parents’ home office while I was hibernating in Vermont amidst the stay-at-home order. During the planning process, they, like many couples planning their wedding this year, realized the vision they had for their wedding day would likely not come to fruition due to the current state of our world. As COVID peaks this holiday season, they clearly made a good and safe decision to push their big day off until December of 2021.

On a mild October night, I strolled around the city with Rachel + Ian and capture their love story on camera – a pandemic couldn’t stop this from happening! We started by their apartment building over in the Fenway neighborhood and then made our way to the esplanade. It could not have been a more perfect night for a fall engagement session.

Here’s what we created:

When their wedding venue was in the same are we were strolling, I forced them to take a tourist-y shot in front of the entrance.

BEHIND THE LENS

MEET ELLEN

I grew up in Vermont and now call Boston home, but I'll always feel most like myself outdoors.

Whether I'm hiking, skiing, spending a long weekend along the shores of Lake Champlain, or returning to Maine with my family each summer, those are the places where I recharge. Before becoming a full-time photographer, I spent years teaching middle school. Looking back, I think that's where I learned the skill that matters most in this work: helping people feel comfortable enough to simply be themselves.

When I'm not photographing weddings, you'll find me planning my next trip to France, getting lost in a good book, cheering on the Boston Bruins, spending time with my family, or wishing I were finally in the right season of life to bring home a dog.
